History Established in 2003, Mike Fanning Solicitors quickly established itself as one of the leading criminal defence firms in West Cumbria. We can legitimately claim a high degree of expertise across the full range of criminal casework.

What we do We undertake criminal defence work at all levels, including police station, Magistrates Court, Crown Court and Court of Appeal. We assist anyone under investigation for, or charged with, a criminal or regulatory offence. We offer expert, informed and pragmatic advice, and will generally provide an initial, free, review of your case to see whether it warrants the expense of a solicitor, and whether you are likely to receive legal aid funding.

Where we operate Based in Keswick, we attend almost daily at West Cumbria Magistrates Court  (Workington). We may attend at other courts on request, although we prefer to focus on our local client base. We cover the West Cumbria police station area, but may be able to attend elsewhere on request. Our more serious cases are usually dealt with at Carlisle Crown Court, but some will be heard at Preston or Liverpool Crown Courts.

Legal aid funding We believe that a fair justice system should properly balance the resources of the state against those of the individual. We are committed to the concept of legal aid and will always strive to obtain such funding in cases where it is appropriate to do so. See if you are eligible here.

Accreditation We are a member of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Criminal Litigation panel. We have satisfied the Legal Service Commission that we are an appropriate organisation to provide a publicly funded criminal defence service under its Specialist Quality Mark scheme. Mike Fanning is a Solicitor-Advocate, with rights of audience in all criminal courts.
